Just read an article about Toyota revealing new models at the Frankfurt motor show. Apparently one of the main features of the new Toyota Yaris is that it features an onboard text message facility that allows the driver to send and receive messages whilst on the move. The system is legal as the law only relates to handheld devices, Toyota intend to have an onboard 'touch and go' multimedia screen, obviously we can tell that this isn't much different from texting on your phone but it is, nevertheless' a loophole that will allow this type of technology on to our roads.
Toyota's view is that it is far more dangerous to text on a mobile phone whilst driving as compared to typing on a screen, my view is that both will obviously draw the drivers eyes away from the road.
